Thank you for traveling with me on this important journey...

My name is Lisa Teske. On October 10, I will depart for Cebu City, Philippines on a 10-day medical mission with Rotaplast International. I will represent the Columbia Center Rotary Club and Rotary International District 5080 alongside of a team of 25 people (medical and non-medical volunteers) who work to correct more than 100 cleft palate conditions in local children. My primary function will be to manage the medical records, but I will also spend some of my time communicating the importance of our work and the impact on the lives of our patients.

While participating in this mission, I hope to improve myself through service, particularly in a challenging medical environment where I'm not naturally composed, and to learn more about Filipino culture. Each day is sure to teach me something new!

For more information about Rotaplast, I encourage you to visit their site at http://www.rotaplast.org/. And to learn more about Rotary International, contact me and I'll be happy to share more about this amazing organization.

Proud to be a Rotarian. Proud to serve. -- Lisa

Mission Possible? Yes, with help!

Well that was a close call.

I wasn't going to post until I hit the road Monday morning, but I found out late last night that this mission is $38K short to cover the expenses. The Rotaplast board made the difficult decision to keep our mission going knowing that they may have to sacrifice another mission, which has children waiting for help. It breaks my heart! They decided to proceed with the Cebu City mission because there’s literally 90+ children pre-signed up and waiting to make the trip to the city for help. It was too close to cancel and the need is enormous.

Volunteers like me are unpaid; I've covered my own travel and expenses and made an additional donation. But of course, that's pennies in the can! If you have a few dollars to spare, please consider supporting the mission with a direct gift to Rotaplast. It’s tax deductible and can be done via Paypal or Google Checkout. I didn’t put that in my original message to my family and friends (maybe I should have but I didn’t want people to feel pressured). Here’s the link to the donation page. Please feel free to share this with your network if you feel people may be interested or called to give.

Together, we can save another mission and change more lives. In service, Lisa
